Foxboro, MA -- Team New England is excited to share, that the program kicked off the weekend with a bang in Walpole/Foxboro, and the U16 Elite Team emerged as CCM Boston Spring Invite champions after a 1-0 win over Southeast Elite (FL).
The boys kicked off the weekend on Friday with a hard fought 5-3 win over a scrappy Boston Hockey Club team, and ended opening day with a convincing 4-1 win over the Hatfield Huskies out of Pennsylvania.
On Saturday, it was more of the same as the boys handled the Tropics in the afternoon, and earned a bye to the semi-final round. In the semi's, the boys continued on with the theme of the weekend which was solid defense, and burying the first goal. They jumped out to an early lead, and never looked back, defeating Vert et Or of Seminaire St. Joseph out of Quebec by a score of 4-1, and set up a much anticipated matchup with a loaded Southeast Elite team out of Florida.
The boys jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, and honed in defensively for the rest of the contest to earn the shutout and first championship for the program of the season! Additionally, our 2010 Elite Team came up just short, losing 2-1 in an exciting final, and our 2008 Elite Team ran out of steam, falling in the semi finals after an undefeated Round Robin showing.
Congratulations to our TNE U16 Elite Team on their championship, and the rest of our players on a great opening weekend!
